Entrepreneurs Making Meaningful Connections

Women IE

The annual Women in Entrepreneurship Lecture Series was established with the purpose of bringing outstanding women entrepreneurs on campus to meet, network and inspire SDSU students. Thanks to the generous gift of Steven Osinski of $250,000, we hosted the 2nd annual San Diego State Women in Leadership event. This event presents students with the opportunity to listen to women entrepreneurs provide insights on their journey in the business world. The event features a panel discussion and an hour of networking.

This year’s lecture series on February 22nd featured eight successful women leaders from a variety of industries who are the change makers in our local community. Amongst these were Tamara Romeo, Founder of SD Office Design; Falena Hanson, Founder of Hera Hub Workspace for Women; and Samantha Madhosingh, Founder of ElevateHER. This lecture series is a great opportunity for students to learn what it means to become an entrepreneur. If you, or someone you know, would like to connect and inspire with SDSU students, We have continued to design, implement, and experiment with new programs that engage all of our stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and the business community. If you would like to join our quest to be the best, please contact adenoble@mail.sdsu.edu.

Connecting Aspiring Students with Growing Companies

Launchin

LaunchIn is a startup entrepreneur event that happens both in the Fall and Spring semesters. In the Fall, LaunchIn is a panel featuring three entrepreneurs. Students can ask the panel any questions they have about their experience starting a company. LaunchIn during the Spring is not only a panel, but a hiring event focused on connecting local startups and growing businesses in San Diego with SDSU students from across the campus. Spring LaunchIn hosts over 40 local startup companies in search of taking on SDSU students as interns/employees.

The LaunchIn event is designed to help growing companies and startups acquire talent that supports and accelerates their expansion. LaunchIn connects over 200 enthusiastic and aspiring candidates with companies that are looking to increase revenue and market share. Our team will utilize campus resources to market your organization and scout students that match your mission, goals and values so you can hire with confidence! For more information and requirements, go on our website.

LaunchIn will take place on April 24th at 4:00 PM at the Goodall Alumni Center. For questions, please contact Cyrus Mostashari at cmostashari-w@sdsu.edu.

SDSU Students Tour Mexico’s Entrepreneur Ecosystem

BAJA tour

Students of San Diego State University’s Lavin Entrepreneur Program and CETYS Universidad toured the most representative of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tijuana, Mexico, seeking to create partnerships and ideas together for cross-border projects. SDSU continues to gain ground on the subject of entrepreneurship for business opportunities and dynamism between the two cities. The tour was led by Dr. Eduardo Durazo Watanabe, MBA Program Coordinator at the CETYS Ensenada Campus, and by Dr. Alex DeNoble, who is full-time academic SDSU professor and the Distinguished Chair Pimsa of CETYS Universidad.

Students toured innovative spaces like Estacion Federal, an artist and entrepreneur work and living space just on the other side of the San Ysidro border crossing; The BIT Center, an entrepreneur’s co-working space in downtown Tijuana; and MindHUB, an incubator facility focusing on Information Technology applications. At the BIT Center, students met with Patricia Pinzon Sanchez, Consul of Communities, Cultural and Educational Consulate of Mexico in San Diego Affairs and Preeti Shah, Consul for Public Affairs Office of the Consulate General of the United States. For lunch, participants visited the Telefonica food trucks, a space for culinary-focused entrepreneurs to test out their business and dishes.

The Lavin Entrepreneurship Center believes that the embodiment of a global perspective is imperative to modern leadership, and in support of this belief it will continue to provide outstanding and unique opportunities for students.
