This spring semester, the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center, the Entrepreneur Society and Startup Circle hosted the second annual Start-up @ State event. On April 24th, 2014, students from across the campus attended a panel event featuring five start-up founders. The speakers event was held in the Ron Fowler Athletic Center Auditorium from 4:00pm - 5:00pm. Immediately afterward, students were invited over to the Alumni Center next door to engage with 25 local startup companies.

Startup @ State April 24, 2014

Startup @ State featured 25 start-up companies from the San Diego area who were eager to hire students for jobs and internships. Companies included Formula PR, Organik SEO, Housecall and Blenders Eyewear just to name a few. Over three hundred students attended the event held this spring.

Start-up at State is a program at San Diego State University that helps build bridges between students on the campus and entrepreneurs in the community. San Diego has a sustainable ecosystem that fuels entrepreneurship within the region, making San Diego a hub for entrepreneurship. San Diego was recently named the best city to start a business in 2014. The strength of this ecosystem relies on the continuation of innovation and the development of deeper networks within the community. The Lavin Entrepreneurship Center, the Entrepreneur Society and Startup Circle are supporting this ecosystem by developing opportunities to connect students with local start-ups by bringing them to campus through the Start-up @ State event.

If you are a startup in San Diego looking for interns or employees and you would like to join us at Startup at State please contact Alissa Thompson at athompson@mail.sdsu.edu or (619) 315-9215.

Competition makes you stronger. If our top competitor didn't exist, we would have to make them up.
