Announcing Entrepreneurship Week at SDSUIn March the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center will host the first annual Entrepreneurship Week at San Diego State. Entrepreneurship Week will consist of different events celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit that is prevalent on the SDSU campus. The weeklong events will take place between Monday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 7th.
Bowling with Entrepreneurs will kick off the week, inviting entrepreneurs from the community to interact and network with SDSU students while bowling at the Aztec Lanes in the Student Union. The following day the Zahn Innovation Center Challenge will take center-stage, inviting SDSU students, faculty and staff, with ideas at various stages of development, to present and complete for funding and in-cash prizes. On Wednesday, March 4th, Centennial Walkway will transform into an entrepreneurial village as SDSU alumni and student-run companies promote and sell their products and services on the campus during Entrepreneur Day.
The latter half of the week will feature two other interactive events. The California Entrepreneurship Educators Conference will take place on March 5th and March 6th, with the first day dedicated to the future of entrepreneurship research and the second day focusing on cutting edge pedagogy. Simultaneously, the 3rd Annual LeanModel™ Competition will kick off and the Zahn Innovation Center Challenge Finals will be held on March 6th, with teams from across the nation competing to win awards. The LeanModel™ semi-finals and finals will be held the following day on March 7th.

Hire Qualified Students at Upcoming LaunchIn EventIn April 2015, the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center is once again teaming with the Entrepreneur Society to host the semiannual LaunchIn event. In the past, this event has drawn large crowds of students from across the San Diego State University campus looking to connect with a diverse array of start-ups and early-stage companies.
The two-part event will kick off with a panel of entrepreneur founders addressing an audience of SDSU students and answering their questions. Immediately afterward, students will be invited to attend the career fair-like second half of the event where they will have the opportunity to engage with local companies looking to hire interns and full-time employees.

Dr. Alex F. DeNoble Appointed as USASBE PresidentDr. Alex F. DeNoble, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management and Executive Director of the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center, was recently inducted as the President for the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE). USASBE is the largest independent, professional, academic organization in the world dedicated to advancing the discipline of entrepreneurship. Dr. DeNoble, who served as the organization’s president elect beginning in January 2014, was transitioned into the role of president during the 2015 Annual USASBE Conference in Tampa, Florida.
"I am excited to begin my term as president of this stellar organization dedicated to furthering entrepreneurship education," Dr. DeNoble said. "Through collaboration with USASBE we will continue to engage with passionate entrepreneurship educators across the nation, and encourage each other to expand best practices of knowledge creation," he continued.
Dr. DeNoble will serve in the role of president of USASBE until 2016, when he will become the immediate past president, and assist with transitioning the next president.
Business Forum Panel Discusses Insights and Trends for 2015On January 28th, a panel of experts in different industries, including hospitality, construction, technology and healthcare, provided insights on the 2015 San Diego Economic Forecast during the Business Forum event. At the event, speakers Robert Gleason, President and CEO, Evans Hotels; Jim Ryan, CEO, Associated General Contractors of San Diego; Jerry Sanders, President, San Diego Chamber of Commerce; and Rick Valencia, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm Life, addressed upcoming trends in each of their respective industries. Around 200 San Diego business leaders and community members attended the event, contributing to the lively atmosphere and allowing for productive networking.

Lavin Entrepreneurship Center Interns Help Raise over $130,000 in Kickstarter FundingDuring the fall 2014 semester, Jack Abbott hired three student interns through the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center Internship Program to help run a Kickstarter campaign to raise funding for an all-in-one home garden, CounterCrop. The initially established goal for the campaign was to raise $75,000 in funding, but instead ended up raising over $130,000 from nearly 600 supporters. Due to the work of the team, CounterCrop was successfully funded in January.
Jack Abbott is a life-long entrepreneur and founder of digital media services company, Oak Creek Trail, the culmination of years of success in the online marketing world. Abbott is also the founder of Intelligent Light Source, an artificial lighting technology company that yields better plant growth performance.
