Lavin Center Internship Program

Students For-Profit

The Lavin Entrepreneurship Center facilitates numerous employment opportunities (e.g. internship, graduate and research assistant, and part-time consulting positions) for currently enrolled SDSU students. Typically, the Center hires up to 100 students per year to work with regional entrepreneurial companies, non-profit organizations, and technology innovators. The Center also hires students to work on the Center's programs and strategic initiatives. Most positions tend to be targeted toward graduate business students, but all currently enrolled SDSU students with qualified experience are encouraged to submit applications.

Earning Course Credit - In order to earn graduate course credit for an internship, you must enroll in either:

  • BA 780 - Field Studies in Business, or
  • BA 798 - Special Study

Please note that you will need to verify with your professor that the internship project meets all requirements for the course credit. Primary areas of employment available through the Lavin Center:

Center for the Commercialization of Advanced Technology

CCAT accepts rolling applications from students interested in working on teams to perform market research studies. The CCAT program is designed to fast-track Department of Defense, industry and academic technologies into commercial and/or defense related markets (http://www.ccatsandiego.org). These positions offer many benefits to students, including employment through the SDSU Foundation, flexible hours ranging from 5-20 per week, development of valuable research skills, and familiarity with process of conducting strategic assessments of technologies.

If a match is made, paperwork is coordinated through the Center and the student is hired through the SDSU Research Foundation.

Lavin Center Entrepreneur For-Profit Internship Program

The Lavin Entrepreneurship Center develops paid internships with regional entrepreneurial for-profit companies and also non-profit agencies on a year-round basis. Currently available positions are posted below. If you are interested in applying for one or more positions, please email your resume to Bernhard Schroeder at bschroeder@projects.sdsu.edu with the specific positions. Assuming your background meets preferred criteria according to the employer, your resume will be forwarded to the host organization. The organization will contact those candidates they are interested in interviewing directly. If a match is made, paperwork is coordinated by the Lavin Center and the student is hired through SDSU Research Foundation.

  • Procuro, Inc. (www.procuro.com) provides a partner-branded enterprise management platform service for IT resources, including hardware, operating systems, and databases. Procuro is seeking a currently enrolled SDSU graduate student in information systems or computer science to support the development of Probes and ongoing new product development. The ideal candidate(s) will possess a background in computer science, the ability to take initiative, advanced knowledge of C++ and XML and/or Perl Scripting, and a professional or academic background in technology.   • Procuro, Inc. (www.procuro.com), a San Diego-based enterprise software firm, is seeking an MS/MBA sales/marketing intern to perform business development activities, including developing prospects, identifying strategic business partners, and creating marketing materials. Preferred intern criteria include excellent working knowledge of computers and MS Office applications. Applicants should have tangible work experience or academic background in strategic planning, business analysis and/or marketing. In addition, systems integration, project management and/or business operations experience is desired. Some personal characteristics which are very important to meet the requirements for this position are as follows: entrepreneurial attitude; team-player; problem solver; naturally inquisitive; creative and innovative; an aggressive and courageous mind set; not risk-averse; take responsibility and accountable for their actions; enjoy working hard; pleasant, courteous and professional, with excellent interpersonal skills; and self-starters - with ability to "get the job done."   • Cabrillo Advisors (www.cabrilloadvisors.com) is a Southern California based investment banking firm staffed with experienced professionals trained at top-tier institutions. Cabrillo Advisors is seeking a currently enrolled marketing-oriented undergraduate or graduate business intern with experience in sales, retail, marketing or public relations.   • Cabrillo Advisors (www.cabrilloadvisors.com) is a Southern California based investment banking firm staffed with experienced professionals trained at top-tier institutions. Cabrillo Advisors is seeking a Mergers & Acquisitions Intern who is an undergrad or graduate business student currently enrolled in SDSU's accounting or finance program. Tangible experience in finance, accounting, banking real estate investment or management consulting is preferred. Interns can expect to work directly with principals primarily performing industry and market research to support client requirements. Interns will be exposed to all aspects of business, from initial marketing activities to execution of deals, from start to finish.   • The Accounting Group (www.teamtag.net) is a Southern California Non-CPA accounting firm that provides an outsourced innovative accounting solutions to companies of all sizes and industries. The Accounting Group also provides software consulting and sales. TAG is seeking a currently enrolled marketing-oriented undergraduate or graduate business intern with experience in sales, retail, marketing and/or public relations. Intern will be responsible for compiling and analyzing data to help develop a marketing plan along with researching current and new markets to explore opportunities for company growth.
